Shadow Tactics: Aiko's Choice
Aiko's Choice is a standalone DLC for the original Shadow Tactics game. This additional content is something we wanted to do ever since I started working on the initial DLC prototypes during the production of Shadow Tactics. Between Desperados 3 and Shadow Gambit, we finally had the right amount of time to make it.
Looking back on the previous prototypes I had created during the development of Shadow Tactics, we picked one of them up again and decided to finish it. The other two major levels were made from scratch to fit the budget and story of the project. I was in charge of the final mission of the game. Additionally we also began on working for prototypes of Shadow Gambit during this time.
My Contributions:
- Level layout and blocking of one of the three major levels
- Supporting the Level Designer who finished my previously blocked dlc level (from ST)
- Planning and implementation of the mission, including scripting, pacing and presentation
- Scripting
- Enemy encounter design
- Set dressing
- Cutscene Design
- Designging narration for in-world dialogs
Project Overview
Kunoichi Camp: Early Production
During early blockouts I worked closely with the Game Designers and Art Department. I provided a basic level flow sketch and a paper prototype with my blockouts. Together we brainstormed what each area could look like thematically. This back and forth would usually yield great ideas for detailed Level Designs and art directions equally.
Designing a level always meant to embed compelling environments and stories right from the beginning.

Kunoichi Camp: Finished Level
The final level uses most of the themes we have come up with. It was my job to place most of the buildings in our games. Most of the time we already had some sort of placeholders or fitting assets from the original Shadow Tactics Game. An Artist would then go over the areas to beatutify everything.

Black Ship
The Black Ship level that I had blocked in during my internship has been finished for Aiko's Choice. The layout itself remained very close to what I had blocked out.
Each island was designed with a unique gameplay twist in mind (Footprints, Noisy Water Sources, Verticality).
